Don’t Eat Me [A Poem for Thanksgiving]
Don’t Eat Me………Until You Give Thanks!
By Ken Frankel
Oh. It is Thanksgiving. It is time for dinner.
Are we talking fashionable eating with each fork-full bite?
Yes! Being grateful makes one a winner.
Well, then I’ll give thanks: “Thanks a lot! Alright!
Hey! Thanks a lot for Obama-care insurance.
It is for all even if not a definite occurrence.
With the word “care” in it, must be good;
Let’s see “giving it a shot” by folks in the ‘hood.
Thanks a lot, astronomers in Mercedes Benzes.
Only you can operate those telescopic lenses.
As far as their concerned, we can go “fly a kite.”
But we never get a visit from a crashing meteorite!
Thanks a lot for technology expanding our universe;
We’re rewarded by X-box, Facebook and a phone in a purse.
Now for a restaurant, just reach for an Apple and Yelp.
Now, also a delivery, call 911, twenty-four seven, for help.
Thanks a lot farmers, but I can’t believe food is from a farm.
Just look in the aisles! I’d say it’s grocers giving food its charm:
Food is pre-portioned, skinned, washed and diced.
Organic, omega-3 added, no trans-fat; we are so enticed.
Thanks a lot for freedom—all things being “equal”.
Yet, minorities, gays and immigrants still await the sequel.
Americans were not “civil” with that nasty biz, slavery
Although many states are now voting with added “bravery”!
Thanks a lot, vegetarians because we now “get” Tofurkey.
As of yet, we have not perfected the Beef-Carrot Jerky.
Humanitarians will say, “try eating nothing alive.”
But with only vitamins, your jig is up, and that’s no jive!
Thanksgiving is about a grateful appreciative peace-of-mind.
It should move us to be touched by those left behind…
And how we have a little ways to go….
Starting with: “That” for which we can show.
